GO GREEN & MARINE!
Enjoy the wind and the waves without engine noise, vibration, exhaust fumes,
and big gasoline bills. Let Mother Nature motivate your boat...
Feel the sense of independence that comes from skillfully handling a boat under press of sail.
Sailing is an activity which combines tradition and technology. It can be both relaxing
and exhilarating, always rewarding. Sailing is about being part of the environment and working
within it, using natural elements of weather and classic physics to get where you are going.
Sailing is also a social activity that builds strong bonds and friendships between sailors; sailing
together, racing, sharing experiences in a sport that attracts the best and the brightest world wide.
Anyone can turn a key, move a throttle and make wind. It takes a bit more to sail a boat.
So come along, give sailing a try, and let the wind come to you —

SAILING ON ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE
Elephant Butte is a large lake with plenty of open water for sailing. There are four marinas, one of
which is primarily for sailboats.
Wind conditions on Elephant Butte Lake are ever variable and can change frequently throughout the day.
Before scheduling lessons, we use the weather forecast, and our own experience to gauge the wind on
that day. Even so, we can never be quite certain what winds we will be treated to.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU
This is the desert southwest, and those of us who live here know how intense the sun can be.
Skin protection is paramount, as well as frequent hydration.
SUMMER MUSTS: Sun screen, dark glasses, hat with brim (ideally that protects both back of neck
and forehead). Also helpful; light colored comfortable fitting clothing, long sleeves and trousers for
sensitive skins, light colored shoes with rubber soles or boat shoes. If you have a favorite PFD
(personal flotation device) that fits you well, bring that. All children must wear a PFD at all times.
FALL / WINTER
Layered clothing is essential. Mornings can be brisk but midday temps can be pleasantly mild to warm.
Sunscreen and sunglasses, hat, water repellent jacket and gloves.
OTHER:
Sailing gloves are optional for handling lines. Some generic gloves will work in a pinch - call us for help
finding those. Snacks, or other beverages you prefer - no alcoholic beverages please.
CATAMARAN TRAINING: Additional items required: bathing suit, wet suit or dry suit, water immersable shoes
or slippers, sailing gloves. PFD use on cat required for all, and cat students must be good swimmers.
